As our client enters an exciting phase in its development, it seeks a Junior Strategic Buyer – Chemicals.


You need experience managing suppliers, delivering value chain expertise, scale and global leverage, and executing sourcing best practices within the context of direct materials/commodities portfolios.


Junior Strategic Buyer - Chemicals, Zurich, Switzerland


Working for a large global conglomerate, you will have significant financial responsibility with a multi-million dollar category spend contributing to a multi-billion dollar revenue stream. You will be comfortable managing high value negotiations, and have the ability to work towards financial targets, and achieve cost savings across a large and technically complex category.


The portfolio you will be supporting covers chemicals and ingredients that are most commonly used within the beauty and personal care industries. This includes oils, waxes, alcohols and petrochemicals.


As the Junior Strategic Buyer - Chemicals, you will have the ability to provide strategy assistance for the wider team and related business units, including advising on Supply Chain transformations and partnering solutions to support various regional requirements.


You will provide market analysis, including price trend forecasts, to the Senior Global Category Manager and market stakeholders to ensure solid category and product strategy.


You will have good knowledge of sourcing resilience, supplier negotiations, value chain analysis, strategic partnerships and strategic Procurement principles.


This role would be ideal for a candidate looking to take the step up from regional Procurement into a global role. Similarly, it would suit candidates that have a strong technical sourcing background and are looking to grow their wider strategic skillset and progress a career long-term within global strategic Procurement.


Within a global team, the Junior Strategic Buyer - Chemicals will have strong technical Procurement skills and well-developed knowledge of chemicals purchasing. Ideally, you will have worked within direct/commodities procurement for a chemical or pharmaceutical company, a beauty, fine fragrance or personal care business, or an FMCG within consumer health, home or personal care ranges.


It is also essential that this candidate is a motivated self-starter who can integrate into cross-functional project teams and secure buy in from various internal stakeholders. It will therefore be advantageous is you have worked in a larger, matrix style organisation previously, but this is not essential.


As Junior Strategic Buyer - Chemicals, we are looking for high calibre professionals with the following skillset:

  • Educated to degree or equivalent level, ideally in a Science, Engineering or Technology-based field, or within Business Administration, Procurement or Economics
  • Ideally a minimum of 2 years‘ experience in Procurement with significant exposure to chemicals, intermediaries or commodities sourcing – in particular, surfactants, petrochemicals, oils, waxes, fragrances or excipients would be of interest
  • Language skills - fluent English is mandatory, additional languages being advantageous, but not essential
  • Ability to effectively influence stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Excellent data management and analytics skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Flexible to travel
  • Goal-focused, team player
