Job Description

My client, an innovative global pharmaceutical business, is seeking a Technical Manager – Clinical Labs and Research Outsourcing to assist the global R&D Procurement team, associated operational stakeholders and early stage research projects.


This is an opportunity to drive projects at the very forefront of clinical research, partnering with external service providers to execute early stage drug research studies. This will include in vitro, in vivo, toxicology and synthesis from target assessment/hit identification up to lead optimization in the research and development process.


This is an excellent opportunity for any candidate looking to progress their career within the field of clinical research. While previous Procurement experience is highly beneficial, it is not essential.

As such, this role may suit professionals that are goal and project minded from any support or active scientific research position within or delivering to a clinical research team.


Technical Manager – Clinical Labs and Research Outsourcing, UK, Remote/Hybrid working


As Technical Manager – Clinical Labs and Research Outsourcing, you will work closely with scientists at the forefront of clinical research, assisting with the execution of ideas and innovations to the team, by sourcing the required products and services and managing key supplier relationships, to deliver successful research and drug development projects.


Day-to-day, this involves providing guidance and expertise to the wider Procurement and Operations team and your external partners on all aspects of technical procurement and project requirements.


You will be working in a truly global environment and must have strong communication skills to execute effective purchasing across global projects. You must have strong analytical skills and the ability to develop and implement strategies and tactical procurement plans.


You will have excellent knowledge of internal stakeholder requirements and be able to translate these to suppliers and support with operational purchasing activities, such as spot buying, supplier management, automated buying solutions and resolving any supplier issues.


Key skills we are seeking:

  • A degree in a related scientific discipline, such as Chemistry, Pharmacology, BioScience or Medicine
  • Good knowledge of practical requirements within a clinical R&D setting – e.g. required external services, consumables, products, facilities, specialist input
  • Previous experience within a project-related role within a research setting – this could be within Procurement, Operational, Project or Administrative support or directly within a scientific role
  • Ideally 1-5 years’ industry experience assisting a research team or project, however, we are open to candidates that have advanced academic research skills
  • Highly detail orientated and analytical, with a passion for securing excellent technical delivery
