Freight and Trade Accounting Controller

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Freight and Trade Accounting Controller for our client, a leader in the international commodities industry.

This role blends the intricate responsibilities of freight controllership with the critical functions of trade accounting.


In this dual-faceted position, you'll not only navigate the complexities of freight operations, but also delve into the essential aspects of trade accounting, playing a significant role in enhancing the efficiency and growth of the department.

The core responsibilities of the Freight and Trade Accounting Controller:
  • FFA and Charter Management: Manage and oversee FFA activities, time charters, and voyage charters, ensuring precise execution and administration
  • Trade Accounting: In addition to freight tasks, handle critical trade accounting responsibilities, aligning freight operations with financial records and reporting
  • Laytime Calculation: Conduct accurate laytime calculations, optimizing timelines for efficiency and correctness
  • Freight Operation Oversight: Provide comprehensive accounting oversight for all freight operations, ensuring transparency and financial accuracy
  • System Management: Utilize advanced freight and trade accounting management systems for all-encompassing operational control
  • Cross-functional Coordination: Work collaboratively across various departments to enhance and streamline both freight and trade accounting operations
Required skills & experience:
  • Industry Expertise: A deep understanding of FFA, time charters, voyage charters, and trade accounting principles
  • Analytical Precision: Demonstrated ability in performing accurate laytime calculations and trade accounting tasks
  • Financial Acumen: A robust accounting background, ideally within the freight, commodities, or a closely related sector
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with state-of-the-art freight management and trade accounting software; advanced knowledge of systems including coding abilities would be a benefit
  • Communication & Organization: Exceptional communication and organizational skills, crucial for managing complex operations
  • Efficiency and Multitasking: The ability to work effectively under pressure, manage tight deadlines and juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
